The coldest months of winter are a wonderful time to make the most of the herbs you harvested in the warmth of the sun. Many take this time to craft tinctures, strengthening them and their families for the winter ahead.

Herbal glycerites are herbal tinctures made from vegetable glycerin used to extract healing properties and flavors from herbs. Herbal tinctures often have an alcohol base. It is surprising glycerites are often overlooked, as they are effective and, in many cases, more beneficial and palatable.

Glycerol is a natural component of the body and is therefore easier to metabolize, enabling the healing herbal ingredients to be used more efficiently. Tasting sweeter than alcohol-based tinctures, glycerites actually balance blood sugar and burn fat. Besides the curative herbal compounds of your tinctures, glycerites have the added benefit of detoxifying the body.

If you are interested in creating your own herbal glycerites for a trifecta of self care, medicinal and magickal experience, start on a New or Waxing Moon. Store your jar in a dark location at room temperature, shaking the bottle every two days to blend. Under the following Full Moon, charge your tincture your tincture to steep for 6 weeks. Mother Moon will add extra potency! Allow. When it is time, press your tincture using cheesecloth or reusable tea bag under the Waning Moon. Plan thoughtfully for the proceeding Balsamic or New Moon. It will be the ideal time to craft your tincture into a spell or ritual!

If the chosen herbals are safe to take internally, you can use a teaspoon at a time in beverages such as tea rituals. Glycerites are also useful for those with allergies who are seeking a honey substitute in sweetening spells.

As natural emollients, herbal glycerites nurture and heal your skin. Add your herbal tinctures to body care products is a simple way to envelop yourself in the vibrance of the garden all year long! Here are some recipes to get started…

2 tsp Herbal Glycerite (herbal chosen based on safety and intention)
